There is so much more to explore in Colorado’s capital city; from museums to aquariums, Denver has plenty of activities for the family to enjoy. Here are five of our favorite family activities to do around the Denver area this month. Check them out!
Wild Animal Sanctuary
The Wild Animal Sanctuary, located in Keenesburg, is the world’s oldest and largest sanctuary dedicated to rescuing captive exotic and endangered animals.
The sanctuary is a place you can see animals and also learn about the Captive Wildlife Crisis. Unlike a zoo, here you’ll see the animals living in large open habitats, rather than in exhibits. Every animal was rescued from an illegal or abusive situation. Besides general admission tickets, you can also opt for a special group tour for an additional fee. This will give you an in-depth look and allow you to learn even more about the sanctuary.
Denver Aquarium
There is plenty for the entire family to do and see at the Downtown Aquarium in Denver.
It houses more than 500 species of animals as well as an interactive stingray reef touch tank. Explore coral reef exhibits as well as animals that call our part of the world home. You can also watch mermaids swim as you learn about the importance of taking care of the environment. When everyone gets hungry and needs a break, you don’t have to leave the aquarium and search for a nearby restaurant. Grab a bite to eat at the restaurant on-site surrounded by fish tanks that are home to more than 100 species of colorful and tropical fish.
iFly Indoor Skydiving
Did you ever want to go skydiving but were afraid of the real deal? Get the experience of skydiving without actually jumping out of a plane at iFly Indoor Skydiving in Lone Tree.
Get your “wings” here in a safe wall-to-wall cushioned flight chamber. Vertical wind tunnels make you feel as though you’re flying! The experience has become so popular that there are now 37 locations around the country, Canada, Europe and Asia. There are different packages available depending on many flights you want to take. Check out group rates if you have a lot of people flying with you!
Free Night at the Museums
While the exhibits may not come to life like the “Night at the Museum” movies, this event is still one the whole family can enjoy…for free! From 5-10p.m. on Saturday November 4th, visit several of Denver’s fine museums.
Choose from Denver’s Botanic Gardens which will feature a special outdoor Day of the Dead exhibit, to Denver’s Firefighters Museum, just to name a couple of the many exciting places you’ll want to visit. Free shuttle buses will be available to make it easier to get to multiple museums that night.
Dinosaur Ridge
Want to visit the top dinosaur track site in the United States? Then you need to take the family to Dinosaur Ridge in Morrison.
The track site features more than 300 clear tracks from a number of animals that left their mark. Don’t forget to check out the dinosaur bone site which is famous for the first Stegosaurus discovery. Feel free to take a self-guided tour or hop on a bus with a tour guide. If you want to get a workout in during your visit, take a hike along Triceratops Trail. The 1.5 mile gravel hiking trail has several interpretive stops that showcase clay mining as well as dinosaur tracks and traces.
From dinosaur tracks to museums to high-flying adventures there is plenty for the entire family to do and see in and around Denver this month!
