Cutting your own Christmas tree might seem like a far-fetched idea when you enjoy year-round beach living like we do here in San Diego, but actually there are several places not too far away where you can do just that!
So round up the family, jump in the car, and head to one of these Christmas tree farms. Maybe it will become one of your new family Christmas traditions!

Family Christmas Tree Farm is a family-owned, ten-acre farm growing the native-California Monterey Pine for you to cut. If you haven’t cut your own tree before, not to worry. They provide the saw for cutting and twine for you to tie it on your car.
In addition to a Christmas tree, they also sell loads of other items that you definitely need to decorate your home for Christmas, including:
- Handmade Wreaths
- Door Swags
- Wreath Crosses
- Boughs
- Garland
- Mistletoe
- Cinnamon Brooms and Scents
- Pinecones
- Bells
Most kids have a blast running through the trees, but they also have hay wagon rides and farm animals that are also a hit with the kids!

This spot is a little farther away, but worth the trip. Make it a fun weekend day trip and your kids won’t be disappointed!
Greenspot Farms grows Cedars, Monterey Pines, and Redwoods. They are all beautiful, ranging in all sizes from table top to sixteen feet. If you are looking for a pre-cut Noble or Douglas Fir, they will be arriving the first week of December. If you like your tree flocked, they can do that with a 24 hour notice.
If you plan your trip for later in the day, you’ll be able to enjoy a 20 minute Christmas hayride with thousands of lights (bring your own blanket to stay warm!) Christmas movies will be shown while you wait, you can meet Cowboy Santa, and warm up by the fire pit with marshmallow kits, coffee, and hot cocoa.
The Christmas Hayrides start Dec. 2nd and run every weekend through the 23rd. Super fun!
