If you have a passion for white water rafting, you have probably had Placerville on your lists of places to go! Placerville is the whitewater capital of California’s Gold Country with rapids starting for beginners going all the way to rapids only suitable for advanced white water rafters. The American River is renowned for its spectacular views and exhilarating rapids that roll through granite canyons.
There are three different forks of the American River where you can enjoy white water rafting. They are all very different and offer an array of terrain and rapid sizes that let you pick the perfect trip for your group!
The South Fork – The South Fork of the American River has very deservingly become one of the most popular rivers in North America. On the South Fork, you’ll get breathtaking scenery, fun rapids, intriguing history and a central location.
The Middle Fork – If you’re looking for a bit more adventure in your white water rafting trip, then the middle fork is the place to head! From navigating a class III rapid right when you start your trip, to plunging through a small chute that was made by gold-hungry miners during the gold rush, you will get your fair share of heart pumping action during this trip.
Don’t worry though, there is a stretch of the river that will give you the chance to relax and enjoy the majestic views and peaceful demeanor of nature with no outside noise from cars and people. You will truly love this ride every step of the way.
The North Fork – This fork of the river is solely for people who LOVE an adrenaline rush. There will be little rest for the rafters that dare to take on this challenge. Most white water rafting tour companies suggest this fork of the river only for experienced white water rafters. There are class IV+ rapids in the very beginning of this trip, as well as class IV rapids throughout, which make for an exciting and rewarding trip for those who can handle the extreme level of difficulty this trip presents!
