If you have ever been to a river in Park City, you have more than likely seen someone fly fishing. With gorgeous views and a variety of places to fish, it’s no surprise that Park City is a fan favorite for many fly fisherman. Discover some of the greatest rivers to fly fish on, and learn about the special features that make them so amazing!
The Provo River – The Provo River originates in the high Uinta Mountains, and is divided into three distinct sections: lower, middle, and upper. The fish are plentiful in this beautiful river. In some parts of the Provo, there can be 3,000 or more trout per mile. Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout reach record lengths, and even a typical fish runs about 18 inches or bigger.
The Weber River – The Weber is a 125 mile long river that empties into the Great Salt Lake. The fish that are natural to this river are brown and Bonneville cutthroat. The river is also stocked with rainbow trout and mountain whitefish, although there are some of these species that are wild as well. This river is great to fish year around as long as you do your research beforehand!
The Strawberry River – The Strawberry River is much smaller than our previous two suggestions, spanning only 18 miles, but even with its small size it has so much to offer. This river is home to one of Utah’s most productive brown and cutthroat trout fisheries. There are brown trout up to 26” being caught, so there are definitely big fish to be had in this small but beautiful river. The Strawberry River has many restrictions, as it is a protected area for the fish, so be sure to check the current regulations before heading out for a trip.
